Edinburgh Collectable - (2019 Series)
Edinburgh, the Scottish Capital is home to some of the UK’s most beautiful and well known architecture. The Scott Monument, the first structure on our list, is a Victorian Gothic monument to Scottish author Sir Walter Scott. The Scott Monument is the second largest monument to a writer (61 metres tall) in the world and it stands inside Princess Street Gardens, Edinburgh.
Next on our list is the Balmoral Clock Tower, which is part of the impressive Balmoral Hotel. This five star hotel is one of Edinburghs most luxurious buildings and is situated within the heart of the city. The Balmoral Clock Tower is set three minutes ahead of time and has been since 1902. This was done so that the people of Edinburgh would not miss their trains! The Clock Tower at 58m high, forms a prominent landmark in Edinburgh’s busy centre.
Finally, we have the National Monument of Scotland. This Greek style monument took inspiration from the Parthenon in Athens and was designed by Charles Robert Cockerell and William Henry Playfair. Construction started in 1826 and due to lack of funds, was not finished until 1829.
